Whole Foods messes with a fan favorite — outraged customers force them to change it: ‘Tastes like s–t’

This shift was not a piece of cake.

Whole Foods regulars know that Berry Chantilly Cake has been a mainstay of the grocery chain’s bakery department for years, with fresh fruit sandwiched between layers of spongey vanilla cake and topped with a whipped cream.

But when the recipe for individual slices of the fan-favorite dessert sold in many stores suddenly changed from a fresh, sweet berry filling to a jam-like dish, loyal customers were left bitter.

“Whole Foods Chantilly Cake is a victim of shrinkage, look at this st,” said one TikTokker, who pointed to the noticeably smaller slice that she claimed “tastes like st.”

“This tastes like raspberry jam flavored cleaning product,” she described.

“Fix it or I’m calling the health inspector,” she said menacingly.

Other horrified viewers said the news was the “worst thing” ever, and some even vowed to switch meals and buy treats from competitors like Publix or Trader Joe’s.

At X, users said Whole Foods was “ruining their lives” by removing the original Berry Chantilly slices.

“I will never forgive this,” one person wrote.

“Whoever decided to change the Berry Chantilly Cake at Whole Foods may burn in hell,” said another.

Another creator who goes by Lisa broke the disappointing news to her online audience, saying that she went to her local Whole Foods location and was informed that they had “changed the recipe” and discontinued the individual slice cake that apparently it was once made at home.

According to Lisa, the worker said the grocer now gets the slices of cake “frozen” – removing the fresh fruit. To get a slice of fresh fruit and original recipe, the bakery employee suggested she buy a whole cake.

“Whole Foods, if you see this, I’m really disappointed,” she said. “I think all of America is disappointed and you should reverse your decision.”

And, amazingly, they did.

The public outrage was enough to inspire Whole Foods to change the recipe back to the original. Whole Foods Market

In a statement to USA Today, the company explained that the recipe change was their effort to streamline the cake program that would allow all stores, rather than select locations, to receive individual slices of Berry Chantilly cake.

However, the move resulted in the dessert drawing backlash from disgruntled customers.

“We recently introduced a new specialty item that was different from the iconic Berry Chantilly treats sold in our bread boxes,” Whole Foods told Today in a statement.

“Based on feedback from our customers, we will be reintroducing single slices of Berry Chantilly Cake that are the same as the classic that our customers know and love.”
